Church, Oia, Santorini, Greece
Any picture of Santorini that you might find, the blue domed churches, the beautiful villages adorning the slopes and the blue-green waters below, it has most probably been taken in Oia.
Our boat ride around the Santorini caldera ended below the village of Oia. A stairway snakes up russet layers of ash to link the cliff-top town of Oia with its port and we climbed though there are donkeys and now even a cable car might exist. Oia is a beautiful village that was destroyed in the 50s by an earthquake but has now been resotred as a traditional Greek village. To find my spot, to find my blue domed church, we explored the village, looking for an angle and then waiting for the boats to come by.
Blue domed churches, the blue sea, and a boat going by, this was it. This was my first photograph that has been etched in my memory. Ofcourse it was taken during my honeymoon so even more special significance.
